Greater productivity, greater employee retention, lowered costs and improved employee health if companies give the privilege of telecommuting. This has been observed in a survey released today by Computing Technology Industry Association.

The findings of the survey are as follows :
- Employees of a company were more productive, as they spent less time traveling to the workplace and going back home – 67%.
- Expenditure savings from reduced use of office materials and resources – 59%.
- Access to a better qualified staff giving a be
nefit to people who are not willing to relocate to other regions – 39%.
- Telecommuting improved employee retention – 37%.
- Improved health and less stress levels due to unwanted commuting – 25%.
- Other benefits included promotion of road safety -18% and
Environmental benefits -17%.

Current technology tools like WiFi hotspots, VPN, faster broadband connections, online video conferencing services have provided a helping hand to make telecommuting easier. Goggle’s Grand Central provides a tool which is a virtual phone number which simultaneously rings the office, home and mobile numbers which avoids a chance of missing a call.

Though there are a few challenges or drawbacks too. Securing corporate information (53%), limiting use of unauthorized and unsupported devices (38%) and controlling the personal use of corporate mobile assets. To overcome such challenges, companies need to upgrade their network and VPN equipments and increase security. Companies should provide proper training and implement new virtualization technologies and applications.
Employee too cannot take an Off more often. But this can be waived off if compared with the comfort the company has provided to the employee. It would not be of any harm if the employee gives extra time of 50 hours instead of 40 hours for work purpose.

Mozilla releases a technology that helps websites detect the Physical location of computers using Firefox browser.

This new technology will help users find locations such as Re-fueling stations, restaurants, Hospitals etc. when traveled to new towns.
This new project is named as “Geode”. It uses a W3C geolocation technology of version 3.1 Firefox. It is still an experimental project, but if implemented
successfully, it will be of great use to users.
Skyhook is the firm that has made this new technology. It figures out a computer’s location from a nearby wireless network. It is called a Loki system which determines with an accuracy of 10 to 20 metres within few seconds of the hit of the button.

Mozilla claims that Geode will have a range of different applications.
Mozilla is still working on Geode specifics, and are not sure if one or two or more selectable service providers would provide the information such as GPS-based, WiFi based or manual entries.
Users can use this release with beta releases of Firefox 3.1 and alpha releases of Fennec.
Any person having a WiFi laptop can use this technology for the time being. With Mozilla Geode, when a website would request your loca
tion a notification bar will ask about the information you want to furnish to that site. You can even deny giving any information, so Mozilla seems to have kept the privacy factor intact.
The current service provider is Skyhook, so for sometime both locations and IP information will be sent to them.

Users can download Geode from the below given URL :

Are you sure that your e-mail account is only accessible to you? Is there anyone else who has sneaked into your e-mail account and using your account against you?

You are sure about you taken every necessary precaution to safeguard your PC. You have the latest Anti-virus software, firewall, anti-spyware and anti-malware, e-mail spam filters etc. But you cannot relax, there can be a loop hole from which a hacker can sneak into your network.

At the home or anywhere, you have set up a WiFi network or your broadband provider has given you a shared Internet connection with customers in the same building, this invites trouble of attacks. You are very vulnerable to ARP cache poisoning attack. ARP poisoning happens when a hacker fools you machine. ARP means Address Resolution Protocol. An ARP is used by the network to associate an IP address with a devices MAC address, in short ARP connects devices on a network.
The connection works without any authentication, so a device can easily pretend to be another. Hackers can sneak into your network and link any device using any IP and Mac address. This way the hacker can make the router think that his computer is yours and vice versa. By this what happens is, when you access your account, your device will send all the data packets to the hackers device.
NOW THE SOLUTION TO THIS :
· Assign static IP address to network devices and static ARP entries.
· For Windows, run ipconfig /all in command line, it will tell you your computers IP and Mac addresses of each device on your network.
· Run arp –s command to add static entries to those devices.
One can also use Anti-ARPSpoof . This software tool would set up a static route entry which would prevent such attacks. This is an opensource tool called as ArpON. It identifies and blocks all ARP poisoning and spoofing attacks.
