British Receive 1.5 billion Silent calls each year.
It is estimated that British individuals receive approximately 1.5 billion silent calls and 1.5 million malicious calls every year.
To overcome this nuisance, two British inventors have designed a device which would lessen the problem of cold calling. The device is named as “True Call”. The device acts as a buffer between the phone and the world. It is able to distinguish between welcome and unwelcome callers.
The reports of a survey concluded that almost 70% of the UK phone users complain to be the victims of phone scams, also called as vishing or phone phishing.
One of the inventors quoted that. “TrueCall is designed to give control of their landlines”.
To make this happen, the user needs to make a star list whic
h contains the numbers of their friends, relatives etc. If anyone from the star list calls, then they can simply get through, without the interruption of the device. But if a call arrives from a different number which is not there in the star list (may be a telemarketer or a nuisance caller), then the device automatically answers the call without the phone ringing. The device automatically asks the caller for their identity then puts the call on hold and then rings the phone. The user then has the option of receiving the call or rejecting it. If the caller is familiar to the user then simply pressing the star key adds the number to the star list. But if you reject the call, then the number gets stored in the device memory and whenever in future a calls arrives from the same number it automatically gets rejected.

This could be one of the reason why UK Government is making mandatory to show Passport for verification before you buy a cell phone.
