AMD’s New 45 nanometer Opteron Processors Quad-core Shanghai .
AMD has announced the availability of new quad core Shanghai 45 nanometer processors for servers, Shanghai chips has been concentrated on the virtualization features. AMD expects the recovery of its image from the delays of the Barcelona processors.
Shanghai is the code name for the latest quad core Opterone processors. The chips have been manufactured to compete with Intel’s Nehalem processors which too are expected to be introduced to the market soon. AMD’s new hardware provides 35 percent better performance than it previous Barcelona quad core Opterone processors. At idle conditions Shanghai is expected to reduce power consumption by almost 35 percent. The chip is expected to deliver enhanced virtualization performance and improved performance per Watt. Shanghai is an upgraded version of AMD’s previous Barcelona chips, increased speed and improved performance. The chips are designed with 45 nano meter layout and has re-architected parts of its cores. It has a Direct Connect Architecture and AMD virtualization technology which offers faster world switch time, improved virtual machine efficiency, the chips have been created focusing on server platforms.
The Shanghai server processors are available in nine models each having four cores.
