Computer maintenance is a regular task for its OPTIMUM performance.
First of all it is very important to keep your computer clean in order to avoid your computer from crashes, slow performance, freezing of the system and other unexpected problems.
There are a few steps that need to be followed ritually once a month to keep your computer healthy.
Removal of Temporary Files :
Without your knowledge, there are certain files that keep stacking up that hamper the performance of your computer, called as the temporary files.
- Cookies
- Temporary Internet files
- Windows temporary files
- History files.
Cookies : Cookies are very small files that get accumulated on the hard drive because of websites. Virtually these files are harmless. But websites use these cookies to remember the settings of your customized homepage.
Temporary Internet Files : Whenever you visit a website and browse different web pages, new files get created onto the computers hard drive and get saved in the temporary internet files folder.
Windows temporary files : These files get stored in C:\Windows\Temp. These are the files that automatically get created each time you install certain application or a program on the computer.
History Files : This folder saves the history of web page you visited. It too gets saved on the hard drive.
Instructions To Remove these Unwanted Files
From windows Internet explorer, select Tools from main menu bar and click on Internet options. From here you can delete Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and History Files.
To clear the Windows temporary files, click Start then go to the run option and type temp or %temp
%. Select all the files and press Shift + delete keys simultaneously to delete it completely from the hard drive.
NOTE : Always keep the Recycle Bin empty.
Once a month you should also use the Disk-Defragmenter and Disk Clean Up tools. To go to these tools go to Start, All Programs, then click on accessories and in the System Tools you will find these two tools.
These are very basic and simple yet effective ways to keep your computer (Desktop and Laptops) working efficiently.
