Step 1: Connect the Zune device to the computer that has latest Zune software installed. Update the device to latest software.

Step 2: Let half empty battery be present in the device. The Zune device must be kept at normal room temperature. Now restart the device and then charge it. Set the Hold switch to unlocked mode. Now hold the back button pressed. When the Zune restarts release the buttons.
